Champlain College Lennoxville is seeking the services of a LABORATORY TECHNICIAN (PHYSICS), to work in a regular, full-time, position.
FUNCTIONS
Reporting to the Academic Dean, the incumbent will assist the teaching personnel in the preparation, presentation, supervision and evaluation of student laboratory work.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Use of the Laboratory and Equipment:
- Ensure the laboratory equipment is ready to be used by students and teachers and ensure that students can properly perform the experiments in providing assistance and technical support.
- Ensure the laboratory equipment remains in good condition and is stored adequately.
- Ensure the students receive the proper documents to prepare and/or perform their experimental work and have access to the laboratory equipment in the case of special individual or group projects; ensure the Physics teachers have the proper in-class demos when needed.
- Collaborate with the Department Coordinator on the planning and management of the department budget and ensure the laboratory inventory is well managed to avoid a shortage of supplies.
- Ensure the department has all the supplies needed to update class demonstrations, laboratory equipment and experimental protocols and participate in the choice of equipment.
- When time permits, help the personnel of other departments if there is a need for some laboratory equipment to be repaired.
- Maintain the Physics laboratories in working and safe condition and ensure safety regulations are respected by all users of laboratory equipment and facilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have a diploma of college studies (D.E.C.) in an appropriate speciality or a diploma or an attestation of studies which is recognized as equivalent by the competent authority.
DESIRED PROFILE
- Must be able to communicate fluently in English and French, both oral and written.
- Must demonstrate good computer literacy and be comfortable with software such as Word and Excel along with data collection software (intermediate level).
- Must demonstrate an expertise in repairing electronic instruments and a good knowledge of College-level Physics, as well as astronomical instruments.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and be self-disciplined in his or her work.
