Job Description

The Tailings Management Project Manager will be responsible for carrying out a variety of tasks related to the safe and responsible management of tailings and water storage facilities.

The successful candidate will contribute to the development of manuals, plans, and tools related to tailings management, such as Operations, Maintenance and Surveillance (OMS) Manuals, Emergency Preparedness and Response Plans (EPRPs), Trigger Action Response Plans (TARPs), risk registers, and other related documentation. They will also deliver worker training programs, facilitate risk assessments, lead emergency response exercises, and participate in workshops with mining operations. The Project Manager will serve as the primary point of contact for all projects under their responsibility.

The Project Manager will be expected to continuously expand their expertise by participating in industry associations and working groups to identify, learn, and implement best practices in tailings management.

The successful candidate will work closely with other project managers and the design team and may eventually be responsible for managing a team. They must have a strong understanding of the requirements of key industry standards and regulations, including the Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) initiative, the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM), and the dam safety guidelines and recommendations of the Canadian Dam Association (CDA).

In addition, the candidate will be involved in broader environmental and social aspects of sustainable mining development.

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline;
  • Strong knowledge of geotechnical engineering and earthfill structure construction;
  • Strong interest in dam and embankment safety;
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the mining industry or a related field;
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of initiative;
  • Strong listening and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work effectively in a team environment;
  • Strong written communication skills in both French and English;
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and provide training or instruction;
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.
