The Canada Games are the largest multi-sport competition in the country. From February 27 to March 14, 2027, Quebec City will welcome more than 3,500 high-performance athletes and coaches competing in 22 sports disciplines. Your Role
As Director, Finance, you will be responsible for the strategic, financial, and accounting management of the Canada Games 2027 Host Society. You will ensure the organization’s financial health, transparency, and accountability while leading your team and colleagues to the finish line with passion, precision, and collaboration.
Reporting to the Associate CEO, Human Capital and Administrative Services, your expertise and energy will enable you to:
- Oversee full general and analytical accounting for the Host Society.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Prepare all documentation required for audits and coordinate the relationship with the external audit firm.
- Manage accounting closings and external audits, ensuring compliance, transparency, and data accuracy.
- Ensure the application of Canadian accounting standards for not-for-profit organizations (NPOs) and funder requirements.
- Provide financial reporting to partners and government bodies.
- Plan, manage, and monitor budgets in collaboration with program directors, including tracking by project and by site.
- Supervise financial reports, tax filings, and regulatory obligations (e.g., T3010, ministerial agreements, etc.).
- Manage cash flow, financial transactions, and disbursement schedules.
- Implement and maintain effective internal controls, including purchasing and authorization procedures.
- Ensure compliance with employee benefits in collaboration with Human Resources;
- Manage the Group RRSP program.
- Develop, coordinate, and oversee the ticketing plan, ensuring accurate accounting of ticket revenue.
- Supervise, guide, and support the accounting team, fostering continuous improvement and operational efficiency.
- Optimize administrative and financial processes and contribute to the harmonization of management tools.
- Support the Finance Committee and Board of Directors with analysis, reports, and strategic recommendations.
If you’re ready to join our team, here’s what we’re looking for:
- University degree in accounting, finance, or business administration (e.g., B.B.A., CPA, or equivalent training).
- Five to 10 years of relevant accounting experience, including at least 3 years in management within a not-for-profit or similar context.
- Knowledge of Canadian accounting standards for not-for-profit organizations (e.g., Part III of the CPA Canada Handbook).
- Experience managing multi-project and grant-funded budgets (public, parapublic, private, philanthropic).
- Strong sense of ethics, accuracy, and transparency.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain financial information clearly.
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Acomba, Sage, QuickBooks, or ERP).
- Professional proficiency in French and English, spoken and written.
- Criminal background check required.
- Combines financial expertise with strategic vision.
- Passionate about sports and events, with a solid understanding of large-scale live operations.
- A team mobilizer capable of rallying partners and experts around a shared vision;
- Calm under pressure with sharp problem-solving instincts.
- A clear communicator able to simplify financial concepts.
- Ready to live at the pace of the Games, with a schedule that sometimes breaks the routine;
- Based in the Quebec City region, or willing to relocate to be part of the adventure.
