Description

Under the supervision of the Supervisor and/or Team Leader, the Specialized Operator, Roads and Railways carries out repair and maintenance work on roads and railways, as well as general tasks.

The incumbent will:
 
  • Ensure his or her own safety and that of other workers during work and comply with railway operating regulations.
  • Participate in and perform maintenance and inspection programs on roads and railways.
  • Repair switches and railway lines in order to meet current standards and make them safe for rail traffic operations.
  • Carry out welding and oxy-cutting work on road and rail components.
  • Operate the heavy and specialized equipment required for work.
  • Participate in snow removal.
  • Complete reports and documentation related to own work.
  • Perform other related duties or tasks requested by supervisor.
  • Participate in the continuous improvement of his/her department and service.
Qualifications
 
  • Professional degree (DEP) in welding or other relevant technical training. Any equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered.
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in operating heavy machinery.
  • Training in welding/oxy-cutting (an asset).
  • Experience in the railway sector (an asset).
  • Skills in operating and manoeuvring heavy equipment and vehicles.
  • Good judgment, vigilance, accuracy and attention during operations.
  • Teamwork.
  • Readiness to work outdoors regardless of bad weather.
  • Very good physical condition (able to lift 20 kg or more).
  • Must possess a valid Class 3 driver’s license.
